balance rewards changes 04/24/2016

redeem & earn points on the same transaction!

on 04/24/16, walgreens.com updated their balance rewards terms & conditions to read...

"Points will not be earned on the portion of a transaction that was paid for using redemption dollars or store credit."

what this means:

for offers requiring the purchase of a specific number of products, points can now be earned even when paying with points or store credit!

for example, get 1000 pts wyb 2 bags of m&m's - you can pay part or all of your balance with points or store credit and you will still earn the 1000 pts.

but for offers requiring spending a specific dollar amount, the amount paid with points or store credit does not count toward the required spending.

for example, 5000 pts wyb $25 digestive care. if you bought $25 worth of digestive care and redeemed $5 in points on the transaction, you would not receive the 5000 pts because only $20 would count towards the deal.
this also applies to the everyday points promotion, in which 10 pts are earned per dollar spent. in the receipt pictured, $5 worth of m&m's were purchased. this would earn 50 everyday pts if no points were used - but since $1 in pts was redeemed, everyday pts were earned on $4 - for a total of 40 everyday points earned.

the following explains what portion of your transaction redeemed pts or store credit applies to when both types of offers are mixed together... though my advice would be to keep things simpler and not mix offers.
